The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In gardens and springs. 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
