Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 to your heart, so that you will warn (the people of the dangers of disobeying God). 194 In a clear Arabic language. 195 Without doubt it is (announced) in the mystic Books of former peoples. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 If We had revealed it to a nonArab, 198 And he had recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused it (the denial of the Quran) to enter the hearts of the Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.). 200 They will not believe in it till they behold the painful doom, 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 Then they will say: "Can we be respited?" 203 Do they want to hasten Our torment? 204 Think! If We let them enjoy life for some years, 205 Yet there comes to them at length the (Punishment) which they were promised! 206 what will it then avail them, the enjoyment of days they were given? 207 We never destroyed a village that did not have warners 208 To remind, and We are never unjust. 209 And the Shaitans have not come down with it. 210 It would neither suit them nor would they be able (to produce it). 211 Truly, they are expelled from hearing. 212 So invoke not with Allah another ilah (god) lest you be among those who receive punishment. 213 And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred. 214 and be meek to the believers who follow you. 215 So if they do not obey you, then say, “Indeed I am unconcerned with what you do.” 216 And rely upon (Allah) the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 217 who sees thee when thou standest 218 or move during your prostration with the worshippers. 219 Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person. 222 Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars. 223 And the poets -- the perverse follow them; 224 Observest thou not, that they wander about every vale. 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 except those who believed and acted righteously and remembered Allah much, and when they themselves were subjected to wrong, they exacted retribution no more than to the extent of the wrong? Soon will the wrong-doers know the end that they shall reach. 227
