The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 In the nearby land, and after their defeat they will soon be victorious. 3 Within a few years. With Allah is the Decision, in the past and in the Future: on that Day shall the Believers rejoice- 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whomever He wills; and only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah! Allah does not fail His promise, yet most people do not know. 6 they only know the outward appearance of the life of this world, and they are neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not think deeply (in their ownselves) about themselves (how Allah created them from nothing, and similarly He will resurrect them)? Allah has created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and for an appointed term. And indeed many of mankind deny the Meeting with their Lord. [See Tafsir At-Tabari, Part 21, Page 24]. 8 Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than these in prowess, and dug up the earth, and built on it in greater abundance than these have built on it, and there came to them their apostles with clear arguments; so it was not beseeming for Allah that He should deal with them unjustly, but they dealt unjustly with their own souls. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
