So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). 139 Recall what time he ran away unto a laden ship. 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers, 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We caused him to be cast forth on to the beach, sick as he was, 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons? 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 God hath begotten. Verily they are the liars. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Produce, then, that divine writ of yours, if you are speaking the truth! 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 except the servants of God, sincere and devoted. 160 So you and your deities 161 can cause anyone to fall prey to your temptation 162 except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire. 163 [The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position. 164 And verily we! we are ranged in ranks. 165 "And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!" 166 They say, 167 If we had but a reminder from the men of old 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 Yet now (that it has come) they refuse to believe in it; but they will come to know soon. 170 We decreed that Our Messenger servants 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him) 180 Peace be upon the Messengers 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
