And when Abraham said unto his father and his folk: Lo! I am innocent of what ye worship 26 "(I worship) only Him Who made me, and He will certainly guide me." 27 And he made it a word enduring among his seed, that haply they might return. 28 Yes, I gave the good things of this life to these [men] and their fathers, until the truth came to them, and a messenger expounding things clearly, 29 Yet when the truth had come to them, they said: "This is sorcery. We shall never believe in it." 30 Then they said, "Why this Quran had not been revealed to a man from either of the two great towns". 31 Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of thy Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in the life of this world: and We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others. But the Mercy of thy Lord is better than the (wealth) which they amass. 32 And were it not that all people had been a single nation, We would certainly have assigned to those who disbelieve in the Beneficent Allah (to make) of silver the roofs of their houses and the stairs by which they ascend. 33 and doors to their houses, and couches whereon to recline, 34 And adornments of gold. Yet all this (i.e. the roofs, doors, stairs, elevators, thrones etc. of their houses) would have been nothing but an enjoyment of this world. And the Hereafter with your Lord is only for the Muttaqun. 35
