If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 36 Such (evil ones) really hinder them from the Path, but they think that they are being guided aright! 37 But when he comes to Us, he will say (to his satan): “Would that there had been between me and you the distance as between the East and the West. How evil a companion you were!” 38 (He will then be told): “Today it will not benefit you the least that after your wrong-doing you and your satans now share the chastisement.” 39 So will you make the deaf listen or show the path to the blind, and to those who are in open error? (The disbelievers whose hearts are sealed, are deaf and blind to the truth). 40 Even if We take you away, We shall take vengeance upon them, 41 or We show you a part of that which We have promised them, for indeed We have power over them. 42 So hold fast to what has been revealed to you. You are truly on the right path. 43 And it is undoubtedly an honour for you and your people; and you will soon be questioned. 44 Ask all Our Messengers whom We sent before you whether We had appointed any deities beside the Merciful One to be worshipped. 45
