And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds." 46 So when he brought Our signs to them, they started mocking at them! 47 Every Sign that We showed them was greater than its predecessor; and then We seized them with Our chastisement so that they may return (to the Right Way). 48 And they said: O wizard! Entreat thy Lord for us by the pact that He hath made with thee. Lo! we verily will walk aright. 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, lo! they broke the pledge. 50 And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see? 51 "Am I not better than this one [Musa (Moses)], who is Mahin [has no honour nor any respect, and is weak and despicable] and can scarcely express himself clearly? 52 Why, then, have armlets of gold not been set upon him, or angels sent along with him? 53 Thus did he make fools of his people, and they obeyed him: truly were they a people rebellious (against Allah). 54 And when they angered Us, We took vengeance on them and drowned all of them, 55 and made them a thing of the past and an example for those who would come after them. 56
