Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
