Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
