We created man -- We know the promptings of his soul, and are closer to him than his jugular vein -- 16 When the two receivers receive, sitting on the right and on the left. 17 Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it). 18 And the intoxication of death will bring the truth; that is what you were trying to avoid. 19 And the trumpet is blown. This is the threatened Day. 20 And every soul shall come, and with it a driver and a witness. 21 Certainly you were heedless of it, but now We have removed from you your veil, so your sight today is sharp. 22 And his companion will say: this is that which with me is ready. 23 [Allah will say], "Throw into Hell every obstinate disbeliever, 24 every hinderer of the good, transgressor, disquieter, 25 and has set up another deity with Allah. Hurl him into the grievous torment.” 26 ۞ His companion said: “I did not incite him to rebel; he was far gone into error of his own accord.” 27 He will say, “Do not dispute before Me – I had already warned you of the punishment.” 28 The Word will not be changed in My presence, nor am I an oppressor at all unto My bondmen. 29
