The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
