The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 and the sea that is full 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
