The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 by the Visited House, 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
