The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 And the lofty roof. 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
