The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
