The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 and the uplifted roof 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
