The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
