The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
