The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
