The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat the other third? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
