The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
