The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
