Have you [Prophet] considered the man who turned away, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see? 35 Has he not been made acquainted with what was written in the scriptures of Moses? 36 And Abraham who paid his debt: 37 Certainly no one will bear the responsibility of the sins of another, 38 and that everyone shall have in his account only that which he worked for, 39 And that his effort will be seen. 40 and that he shall then be fully recompensed, 41 And that to your Lord is your returning; 42 That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears; 43 That it is He Who granteth Death and Life; 44 And that He created pairs, the male and the female 45 from a discharged living germ 46 and that it is for Him to grant the second life, 47 And that it is He Who has given wealth and contentment? 48 And that He only is the Lord of the star Sirius? 49 That it was He who destroyed the 'Ad of old, 50 And destroyed the tribe of Thamud, not sparing anyone? 51 and before them the people of Noah who were even more unjust and insolent; 52 And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain, 53 So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones). 54 So O listener! Which favour of your Lord will you doubt? 55 This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old! 56 The near event draws nigh. 57 None except Allah can avert it. 58 Do you then wonder at this recital (the Quran)? 59 and do you laugh, and do you not weep, 60 And ye are behaving proudly. 61 So bow yourselves before God, and serve Him! ۩ 62
