The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 And We sent against them a howling wind in a Day of continuous of ill fortune 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
