The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ The Compassionate. 1 Taught the Qur'an, 2 He created man 3 and has taught him articulate speech. 4 The sun and the moon run on their fixed courses (exactly) calculated with measured out stages for each (for reckoning, etc.). 5 The plants and trees prostrate before Him. 6 And the sky He hath uplifted; and He hath set the measure, 7 In order that you may not transgress (due) balance. 8 And observe the weight with equity and do not make the balance deficient. 9 And He appointed the earth for the creatures. 10 Therein are fruits, date-palms producing sheathed fruit-stalks (enclosing dates). 11 and grain growing tall on its stalks, and sweet-smelling plants. 12 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 13 He created man from clay like that of earthenware. 14 And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire. 15 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 16 Lord of the East and Lord of the West. 17 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 18 He has given freedom to the two great bodies of water, so that they might meet: 19 and yet there is a barrier between them which they may not overstep. 20 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 21 There cometh forth from both of them the pearl and coral-stone. 22 So O men and jinns! Which favour of your Lord will you deny? 23 And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the sea like mountains. 24 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 25
