The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and shade extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
