The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
