He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
