The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 Gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
