These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Just consider what you emit, 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 "We are ruined, 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
