A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 "We are ruined, 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
