a good many of olden times, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
