A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 But those of the left hand -- how those of the left hand -- 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
