A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten - 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Consider the fire that you strike. 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
