a large group of the earlier people 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
