A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
