A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
