The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Save worshippers. 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
