Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
