In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
