Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
