In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
