The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
