The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise, and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
