Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
