The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
