The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
