I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 By the receding night 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 about the sinners. 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
