The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
