The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Where they will recline on couches feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold. 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 'See, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked' 22
