The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 And they feed with food, for love of Him, the needy, and the orphan and the captive. 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
